Ukonsärkkä–Jäkäläkangas Nature Conservation Area
Few people stumble upon Ukonsärkkä, located near the eastern border, by accident, but that is precisely why this hidden gem is well worth a special trip to explore. The beauty of this area, which is perfect for a day trip, cannot be overstated. The magnificent esker and ancient forests offer exactly the kind of scenery that usually appears only in dreams and postcard paintings. In Ukonsärkkä, those scenes just happen to be completely real.

In Ukonsärkkä, the peace of nature is guaranteed, even though you might run into other hikers now and then at the Ukonlampi lean-to. The short Ukonpolku trail runs through the area, offering views of the most picturesque esker landscapes as well as ponds and marshes. The area has been designated a nature management forest by Metsähallitus and is part of the old-growth forest conservation program.
