Rukajärvi Center

Rukajärvi Center

Asema-aukio 2, 81700 Lieksa (Rautatieasema)

The military history of Rukajärvi through photographs, maps, and letters.

The Rukajärvi Center maintains an extremely comprehensive exhibition on the region’s military history, featuring interactive displays, archives, and interviews with veterans, all presented in three distinct exhibitions.

Located at the Lieksa train station, the Rukajärvi Center’s collections include thousands of photographs, artifacts, digitized interview material, and documents related to the battles of Rukajärvi during the Continuation War.

In addition to art, visual material, and maps, the center highlights the railway’s significant role in wartime logistics. Of the 35,000 men who served in the area between 1941 and 1944, 2,750 were killed in action. Their stories, however, live on, preserved at the center.

Guided tours offer the opportunity to explore not only the center but also Rukajärventie and its programs. The Rukajärvi Center features a WiFi café with services as well as the Raappana Hall with its military history exhibitions.
