Local Trails

Local trails bring you closer to nature.
In the Lieksa area, you’ll find several easy-to-navigate local trails that take you into the region’s natural and historical surroundings.

Brahea Trail (350 m)
The Brahea Trail is an accessible nature trail built in the Varasoja landscape of Lieksa, starting at the parking lot of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and ending at a bike path. Most of the trail consists of a sturdy, plank-built bridge with edges or handrails. The remaining section is made of leveled crushed stone. The trail is approximately 350 meters long and can be navigated by wheelchair, walker, or while pushing a stroller. There are two rest areas along the trail, situated within touching distance of the trees.

Pielispolku Trail (850 m)
Pielispolku Trail is a stone-dust-surfaced trail equipped with boardwalks in the heart of Lieksa, along the shores of the magnificent Lake Pielinen. The nature trail begins on Braheantie, heading toward the harbor, immediately after the railroad tracks on the right. The trail is approximately 850 m long and features a bird-watching platform and benches along the way.

Pappilanluhta Bird Wetland Trail (1.1 km)
The area is located right next to the center of Lieksa, about one kilometer from the center toward Joensuu, along Highway 73. From the parking area, there is a 200-meter-long footbridge leading to the Pokron Pisa observation tower, which is also accessible to wheelchair users and those with strollers. The length of the circular trail from the parking area is approximately 1.1 km.

Paateri Trail (4.7 km)
The Paateri Trail is a 4.7 km route from the village of Vuonislahti to the artist’s home of sculptor Eva Ryynänen in Paateri. The trail is mostly suitable for cycling as well. In winter, there is also a cross-country ski trail between the village of Vuonislahti and Paateri.
